What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a three thousand year old, safe, effective and drug free system of medicine that is used to help activate the body's natural ability to heal itself. It involves inserting hair fine, sterile and disposable needles into the body at specific ponts to stimulate the body's meridians or energy pathways. Meridians carry Qi (pronounced chee), or energy throughout the body, which simply means how well you fight off infection, take sufficient strength ffrom your food, or have enough energy to participate in life. Illness arises when the natural flow of Qi, or energy, becomes blocked or compromised due to emotional states, overwork, infection, stress, diet. Each person responds differently to treatment. A typical course of acupuncture requires four to six treatments. Ultimate aim is to become healthy enough to only require treatment as a preventative health care. After treatment, many people find that they experience decreased pain, increased vitality, improved energy levels, better digestion and sleep as well as an enhanced sense of overall wellness.
